Campos de fresas (Strawberry Fields) - Luciana, a 17 year old girl is in coma after taking an extasis pill. It is “the next day”. While her friends wonder what happened, Eloy, the boy who is in love with her desperately search for the drug pusher who sold her the pill to try and save her life. Only by analizing the contents of the pill will the doctors know what they are facing. Luciane becomes a piece of news for the sensationalist press and in a few hours everything around her is in turmoil. Her parents, her younger sister, her best friend who suffers bulimia and needs her to fight against her disease, the doctors, the police searching for the drug pusher and the dealer he has to confront In the meantime, Luciana is playing a chess game with the Death. |

Noche de Viernes (Friday Night) - Five very different young men meet at night to drink and hang around, dragging their emptiness and their own problems in a spiral that will lead them to both challenge a group of skin heads as well as killing an Arab boy in the early hours of the morning. An innovative technique where the narrator faces the voices of the five characters, each one of them telling the story in the first person from different view points. The novel is a ruthless claim against violence amongst young people. |
Kafka y la muñeca viajera (Kafka and the Travelling Doll) - One year before his death, Franz Kafka saw in one of Berlin's park a girl who was crying because she had lost her doll. The writer calms her down by telling her that her doll had gone on a trip and that he, a doll postman, would take her a letter the next day. For three weeks, Kafka wrote a daily letter for the girl. This story has become a legend in literature.
El Tiempo del Olvido (The time of olvido) - An eighteen year old boy appears in a village in the Basque Country. He makes friendo with Tetxu, the son of an ETA member who has been missing for ten years after killing a man by mistake. The friendship between the two boys grows and makes Tetxy to challenge his mother and find out his fatherís whereabouts on the other side of the French border. When Tetxu tells his friend that he has seen his father, his friend goes after him too: he is the son of the man who died by mistake. He was holding his fatherís hand that fatal morning. In an overwhelmingly emotional end, while his friend is trying to kill Tetxu’s father, he begs him not to do it, not to turn into the killer that is not him. The novel is about peace which is posible to find, reconciliation hope and friendship.
Víctor Jara. Reventando los silencios (Víctor Jara. Busting Silences) - One of the most personal works of the author which took him 25 years to write. It is a novel of the life of Victor Jara, the singer-songwriter killed during the Chilean coup d'etat in 1973, where we can see not only his personal story but that of Chile massacred with violence. An elaborate technique, based on dialogues and brief texts, an impression of a time and a character who is now a legend. Víctor Jara’s widow did not change a single comma before the text was published.
La piel de la memoria (The Memory Skin) - Kalil Mtube is sold by his father for scarcely 15 dollars with the belief that he will be adopted by a family that will allow him to study and will give him a much better life. However, Kalil is snatched from the border between Mali and Burkina Faso where he lives. He is then condemned to live as a modern slave in the cocoa fields on the Ivory Coast. His life is an inferno until he manages to escape. However, he ends up in a ship where the children are thrown into the sea before the ship crew gets arrested by the authorities. This novel shows the cruelty against slave children in Africa in the twenty first century.
La música del viento (The Music of the Wind) - A group of tourists return from India with a carpet that they bought there. In one of the hems of the carpet, they found a note asking for help. The manís cousin, a journalist collaborating with several non governmental organizations, goes to Madurai to face the shame of children making carpets with their tiny hands, lead into slavery by the owners of the bazaars. This novel is a tribute to Iqbal Masih, a 12 year-old boy who was murdered by carpet manufactures in Pakistan after leading a rebellion against them and winning the Reebok award for human rights. Iqbal has a commemorative statue in Vitoria, Spain.
El soldado y la niña (The soldier and the girl) - A soldier in a war, any war, sees the bullet that is going to kill him. At that moment, a girl appears, who is death coming to fetch him. The soldier does not believe her and she says: “Oh, soldier, you have been tricked about this too”. Hand in hand with the girl, the soldier goes on a strange journey to corroborate the lies of war. He meets another teenage soldier who has been shot and is going to die, the generals who slaughter them just for their own glory, the polititians talking and talking without an end, the bankers increasing their fortunes. Finally, the bullet does not kill him and his life takes a new turn.
Aydin - In 1992, a little beluga whale, escapes accidentally from a laboratory in Ukrania. Swimming in a straight line it arrives in Gerze, a Turkish village where it is adopted by the fishermen. The news becomes an international issue. Conservation groups want to buy it and release it, Turkey claims it belongs to them and Ukrania enforces its right of property. Aydin (which means clarity in Turkish) is taken back to Odessa, and then a year later escapes and returns to Gerze with the fishermen. This is a story for children.
Las guerras de Diego (Una novela sobre seis siglos de historia en España) (Diego's Wars. A Novel about Six Centuries of History in Spain) - Diego is a child whose life changes when his father, a soldier, goes with Spanish troops on a humanitarian mission to a distant country. That is ye moment to get closer to his grandfather, a man who used to be an irreverent and pacifist hippy with the ideas of his time and is now a peculiar and lucid man, nonconformist, radical and with a sharp tongue that leaves no plate unbroken in the house. Grandad and granchild set up a special alliance by which once or twice a week, they get together for the man to tell the child about the wars that have taken place in Spain from the Catholic Monarchs until them. He tries to show and prove how stupid and bitter, profit seeking and terrible, armed conflicts are and how hard they had his Spain throught a 500-tear period. While the two main characters look into the details of the stories, the letters from the father, from the distance, weave another reality equally harsh and sad: that of the complicated current world. Together with the mother and the grandmother as witnesses of this oral story, and always with a constant dialogue of questions and answers, this novel becomes a perfect and visceral review of Spanich History. A story that we should not forget, since it gas come back again and again throught the years.
Trilogía de las Tiera (Trilogy of the Lands) - Not a far future: human beings and machines are equal before law. Even more, the machines, which saved humanity from holocaust, drive progress and social life. A man being acused or murdering a machibe alters peraceful living and starts off a pending revolution. A thrilling trial that will determinate the future of the planet. This is the starting off in the first part of the "Trilogy of the lands", i.e "...in a Placed Called Earth", followed by "Return to a Place Called Earth" and "The Testament of a Placed Called Earth". All of them piblished betweeb 1983 and 1986 and one of the main references in Spanich science fiction young literature. 25 years later, it has been pibliched in a single volume.

El niño que vivía en las estrellas (The boy that lived in the stars) - A strange child that claims to come from space is found in town and taken to a psychiatrist. The child cannot stand the light, pretends to shoot and tells strange space stories. The doctor finally discovers the truth: The child’s father had connected him to a virtual reality helmet and locked him in his room to keep him out of the way. When the father dies and the batteries go flat, the child goes out for the first time. This plea against new technologies was a premonition of thingd to come, since after its edition, two similar cases happened in Italy and Spain.
En un lugar llamado guerra (In a Place Called War) - A young journalist is sent to a remote country, Tudzbestan, to cover a civil war. He hires a guide, a 12 year-old boy called Milo, who makes him famous by selling fake exclusive interviews with supposed war characters who are actually the kid’s own relatives. Milo is a survivor. Nevertheless, between the reporter and the guide a friendship is born beyond the conflict, when they save each otherís lives. This novel was written before the invasion of Afganistan, 11th September and the Irak war and is a forecast of both in the way it treats this subject.
Un hombre con un tenedor en una tierra de sopas (A Man with a Fork in Soupland) - A well known Spanish photographer commits suicide after being awarded the World Press Photo. His younger brother, a student of journalism, wants to know why and looks into every clue to reach the Lacandona forest in Chiapas, Mexico, where he finds that the award winning photograph was the cause of a massive slaughter. The novel deals with the integrity of the media and their human and moral responsibilities.
Las alas del sol (The Wings of the Sun) - In the early nineties, Yu is a Vietnamese child who has lived as a refugee for three years in Shek Kong, a refugee camp in Hong Kong, together with his family. The novel is an everyday day in his life, day 927, between future hope, present uncertainty and his unrefrainable energy, since, despite everything, Yu is always a child who can run, and laugh. A child who gets up every morning before anybody else to watch the sun rising and stretch his wings above and beyond the camp wired fences. The reality of refugee children as a result of wars and other conflicts continues to be intense and tragic nowadays.

Llamando a las puertas del cielo (Knocking on Heaven's Doors) - Silvia, a medicine student, sets off for India to work as a volunteer during the summer in a hospital in a distant place. She tries to fall in love with a boy, takes part in a theater play just to try something different and her best friend is the only person she trusts. Finally, she finds out the truth: She is in love with her best friend. It is the moment to accept this and confront her family and her new life in her new reality.
Donde el viento da la vuelta (Where the Wind Turns Round) - Nino is 12 years old and is forced to join the guerrillas. He sees his friends dying, and takes part in war actions. But Nino can read and write, and while he fights, he reads a children’s book, his greatest and only treasure. Pure contrast. This novel is then the life of a guerrilla boy and the book that he is reading. When he is about to read the last chapter in his book, he is injured and must choose between crawling towards his weapon or towards his book. He takes the book. Years later, now a lawyer and defender of human rights, he recalls this story.
La memoria de los seres perdidos (The Memories of the Lost Beings) - The author took 15 years to write this story from 1982 when he met the mothers in Plaza de Mayo. The protagonist is a 19 year-old girl with an Argentinian father and Spanish mother, who is a member in a non governmental organization and is full of enthusiasm for life. A woman who claims to be her aunt visits her to tell her that the man she knows as her father is not her real father, but just the ex-officer who tortured and killed her real mother and then snatched her for himself. An intense plea for those who went missing in the Argentinian coup d´etat in 1976.
Concierto en Sol Mayor (Concert in Sol Major) - A prodigious violinist child arrives in his home town to give a concert. He escapes from the hotel to wander around the places in his memory and ends up with an old violinist who plays in the street for a few coins. It is first the old man who tells him about his love for music even if he failed to succeed. When the old man finds out who the child is after listening to him playing, it is the child who tells him what music is for him. This is a beautiful story of love and fight, endurance and courage.
Las historias perdidas (The Lost Stories) - An old man who has retired to a dessert after his disillusion with the human race, comes across a man who is dying. He is not sure if he should save him, as if he does so and he is a good man, it will be good, but if he is wicked, everything he does will be on his conscience. The moribund man tells him his story and the old man saves him. Some months later, out of irresistible curiousity, he goes to the Old Kingdom to find out what had happened. The man he saved is the Governor, who is leading the country to bankcruptcy. The old man returns to the desert in desolation and finds another dying man. He doubts again. Then, after listening to the man’s story he saves him and some months later he visits again the Old Kingdom. The second man is the right hand of the first one and thanks to both men, the country is enjoying a time of prosperity. The old man went back to the desert with joy. This is a story written with the epic tone of the great legends.
La bomba (una fábula en tres dimensiones) (The Bomb - a Fable is Three Dimensions) - Three children find a buried bomb and play with it. In the novel, the story of the bomb and the story of each one of the children are interconnected. One of the children is Asian, another one is Central American and the third is an Arab. When they have the bomb, they play together, but separately we see that the girl lives somewhere in Asia, one boy lives in Central America and the other boy in Palestina. The story of each one of the children tells us about their lives and about the kind of war that left a bomb buried near their home. The author tries to tell us that there are bombs everywhere waiting for the children who, unaware of their destructive power, will play with them. The children, innocently, consider the bomb as their precious treasure, an alien craft or the legacy from their ancestors.
Los dientes del dragón (The Dragon's Teeth) - A girl is sold by her father for a bunch of dollars, with the promise that she will be delivered to a good family to bring her up and to give her a chance in life. But the girl ends up at one of the capital city brothels. Her elder sister goes to town to rescue her. She will have the unexpected support by a non governmental organization.
Las fronteras del infierno (Hell's Borders) - Tasio and his mother arrive in Spain from Ecuador to meet his father, who as already been working in this country for a while. The gangs and theris violence are left behind. But when he sets up in his new town, he finds out that the same South American gangs are acting in it and that they demand him to join them... or to pay for it. His integration will become much more diffcult from that moment on.
La guerra de mi hermano (My Brother's War) - In 24 hours a Spanish young man is leaving in an army humanitarian mission to a middle east country. The day before, his family suffers with a different type of conflict: the father, who is proud of his son. The mother that knows he will be killed. The pacifist brother, who does not understand the sacrifice of his elder brother, and the two young ones who live in their own little world. The war becomes them burst out at the last dinner.

Los hombres de las sillas (The Men of the Chairs) - A child sees seven men in black, each one of them carrying a chair. He is the only one can see them. Everytime the men sit down, something unfortunate happens. The child’s investigation leads him to discover a painting known as “The TV watchers”. The men, like us, watching TV, sitting tragedies. The child discovers the love story of the painter and the legend of his own people.
Rabia (Rage) - It is based on the experiences of the author, who always helps young people to look for their targets. The novel shows the end of Patricia’s adolescence, when the rage that she feels inside does not let her reveal her desires. She sings, composes, plays the guitar, writes. When she meets a writer visiting her school, she faces her own self. This work is a portrait of our current life and the struggle of thousands of youngsters with dreams.
La fábrica de nubes (The Cloud Factory) - Pampelum is a country, but it is so small that has no clouds. They have to be handmade. But one day, the factory runs out of white and grey paint and the person in charge decides to produce colour clouds. When they start coming out of the chimney everything changes.
Una dulce historia de mariposas y libélulas (A Sweet Story of Butterflies and Dragonflies) - The minghum tradition has been going on in China from ancient times: when a child dies, it is to be buried next to another child to avoid loneliness in the other world. A father travels over mountains for days searching for a dead girl. When he dinds her, the journey back home is even longer while he tells the girl how happy she will be with his son. Poetry.
Querido hijo: estás despedido (Dear Son, Youy Are Fired) - A mother gives her son a dismissal letter. She is fed up with him. He has one month to find a new home. The boy laughts at this, thinking it is just a joke, but after a monthm he finds himself with a suitcase in the middle of the street in total puzzlement. This will make him find a totally different world.
Una (estupenda) historia de dragones y princesas (más o menos) (A (great) Story of Dragons and Princess (more or less) - A writer intends to write a classic story with dragons, princesses, heroes, witches, etc. but his consciousness (or common sense) interrumps him by a saying that he is out of fashion and that those stories are not read any longer. The writer insists on writing it, but is conciousness criticises everything he writes, parragraph by parragraph, laughs at him and call him all imaginable names. The story goes on with humour, but the contrast with the conciousness' voice fill it with corrosive irony.
Los olvidados (The forgotten Ones) - An Arab child has been kidnapped to use his organs for several transplants. His friends try to save him, but they have to fight against the mafia organization and the doctors who perform the operations.
El niño que se cayó en un agujero (The Child that Fell into a Hole) - Marc is walking on his own along the street. He falls into a hole and cannot get out of it. With half his body buried in the ground, he sees a variety of people passing by, but nobody believes him. Only a dog becomes his friend. Finally a homeless person gives him the key to everything: the hole is his despression that comes from his parent's divorce. If he does not get over hit, iy will do away with him.

Los fuegos de la memoria (Memory Fires) - The bodies of several people have been buried in a hill after the end of the Spanich Civil War. When they are taken out... a body is missing. The mystery encourage a journalist to investigate that happened 70 years ago, while some surprising things start happening to the greatgrandchild of the missing person.
La biblioteca de los libros vacíos (The Library of the Blank Books) - The books in a library have gone blank. All the letters have fallen out the books because nobody was reading them. The children from the village are going to rewrite all the books... more or less.
La palabra más hermosa (The Most Beautiful Word) - A teacher asks tow of his students which is the most beautiful word. If they got it right they would pass the subject. To find the word, the teacher sets a number of tests that they must solve before 7 in the evening. The boy and the girl will go through a fantastic world to complete the task.
Las hijas de las tormentas (Trilogia) (The Daughters of the Storms, Trilogy) - Book 1: The Mayan Enigma. Book 2: The River Nile Cross. Book 3 : The Fifth Glass. 52 girls appear in the middle of great storms in 52 different places on Earth and are adopted by poor families. Some years later, three of them disappear in a mysteryous way. Joa, the daughter of one of these women starts investigation when her father, a famous archeologist, also disappears surprisingly while investigation the Mayan prophecies about the end of the world in 2012. She then finds out her mother was an extraterrestial creature (Vol.1) and when she gets to talk to her (Vol.2) she finds that the global climate change is a threat to the world and must join forces with her two "sisters", the daughters of the other tow missing women (Vol.3). This trilogy, a mixture of Indiana Jones and the X Files, takes place at emblematic places of extareterrestial relevance of Eart, such as Chichen Itzá (Yucatán, Máxico), Egypt, Jordan, Mali, India, Nepal and Tibet to finally reach Stonehenge, England, as the key of the story. On their way, judges will try and stop them, the guardians will protect them and both her and her sisters will get to know their incredible powers.
